Motorcyclist killed, three injured as falling tree causes accident on expressway

A tragic accident occurred on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in George Town, when a falling tree caused a collision involving two cars and three motorcycles, resulting in one fatality and three injured victims. The incident took place early in the morning, with the police receiving a call at 1.30am.

The motorcyclist, Mohd Farid Amirol Shah, 18 years old, died at the scene due to severe head injuries, while three other individuals sustained minor injuries. North-east district police chief Soffian Santong stated that a total of 10 people were involved in the accident, but six of them escaped unharmed. The deceased and injured victims were transported to Penang Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Authorities are urging anyone with information on the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp Mohd Shahrul Hanaffi, at 016-6658704.

In response to the accident, 18 firefighters from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene to carry out rescue efforts and help ease traffic congestion.
