Kelantan state assembly dissolves, paving way for Malaysian elections

The Kelantan state assembly in Malaysia is set to be dissolved on June 22, clearing the way for state elections, as announced by Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob. He had previously sought an audience with the state ruler of Kelantan, Sultan Muhammad V, to discuss the dissolution of the 14th state assembly.

Kelantan is not the only state to hold elections separately from the 15th general election held in November last year. Selangor, Penang, and Negeri Sembilan, which are governed by the Pakatan Harapan coalition, as well as Kedah and Terengganu, led by the PAS party, also opted for separate state elections. The full term for the state legislative assemblies in these six states will conclude this year, necessitating elections to be held within that timeframe. Further updates on the upcoming state elections are expected in the near future.
