The horrifying murder case of a Honduran teenager rocked a local community last week. Identified as Osman Adonay Erbina, his heavily disfigured body was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck on Sunday, October 15. However, the mourners at his funeral were stunned when a friend suddenly received a video call from the supposedly dead 17 year old.

As the coffin was being prepared, one of Osman’s friends received a video call from the supposed Honduran teenager. Vilma Fuentes, the mother of the allegedly dead teen, said she thought her son’s friend was joking, in an interview with local media in Honduras

Osman had video-called his mother to confirm that he was alive and well. According to reports, Osman had left home three weeks before travel to the United States.

At the time of the call, he was at the Guatemala-Mexico border, reassuring his mother with a cheerful voice that he was very much alive.

Once the family regained their composure, they immediately informed the police about the bizarre situation.

Officers arrived at the funeral and further investigations revealed that the body was likely that of 15 year old Jimmy Sarmiento, who had also disappeared. The family confirmed the identity, and the coffin was taken back to his home for a ceremony.

Fuentes later commented on the mistaken identity.

“The truth is that they look very alike. We cleaned the body and mourned, but that body turned out not to be Osman’s. We were confused, as were the police.”
