PM Prayut thanks everyone for “ensuring public safety” over Songkran

From the National News Bureau of Thailand…

“The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, thanked all sides, including volunteers, for ensuring public safety during this year’s Songkran festival.

The Assistant Government Spokeswoman, Col. Thaksada Sangkhachan, said the Prime Minister asked government agencies to continue organising road safety campaigns after the Songkran festival ended on Tuesday (April 17).

Col. Thaksada said Gen. Prayut also wanted relevant agencies to provide relief to people affected by volatile weather conditions.”

We would like to suggest the Government have a quick look at the “Seven Dangerous Days” road toll figures before issuing such a statement in the future. So far the road toll has exceeded last year with 378 lives lost, and another two days of official reporting to go. That’s on top of the 3,575 people injured during the same five says. Somehow the people ‘ensuring public safety’ have neglected the stark, and largely preventable, carnage on Thailand’s roads each year – The Thaiger.
