Video Report: Patong’s Carnival kicks off this Sunday
PHUKET: Patong’s annual carnival is set to hit the beach town’s sands on November 1 with the theme: ‘Patong Seafood Festival 2015’.
The event has been marking the beginning of Phuket’s high season for 30 years now, and will take place from November 1-3.
Tourists and locals are all invited to join the concerts, historical exhibits and the renowned parade, said Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsab.
“This is our 30th year of the festival and we wanted to do something different, so we will be focusing on the highlights of Patong and the traditions unique to our town,” Ms Chalermluck said.
In addition to local art and history exhibits, there will be several food zones: world seafood, local street food, Thai seafood and Asian seafood.
“The festival is set along the beachfront road, Soi Bangla and nearby areas,” said Ms Chalermluck. “In the edutainment zone will be the central stage for traditional live bands and performances, as well as sea animal preservation exhibitions.”
An estimated 20,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s event.
