Police are hunting for a Phuket bank robber
Phuket Police are now hunting for a suspect who has robbed a bank and got away with 26,900 baht cash in Thalang this morning (August 10).
Thalang Police were notified of the incident at the Government Hosing Bank on Thepkrasattri Road, 300 metres north of the Heroines Monument in Thalang. The incident happened just after the bank opening time.
Police arrived at the bank and spoke to a female bank staffer name Sasithorn Sriket. She told police that “while I was at the counter, this man ran straight into the bank and to the 43 year old security man, Pongsawat Sornsuk. The man put Mr Pongsawat into a headlock. The robber was about 170 centimetres tall, carrying a gun and wearing a full face helmet.”
“The men told Mr Pongsawat ‘don’t try and stop me and do what I say’. He threw a bag at me over the counter and forced me to put money in it. I was very frightened as I put 26,900 baht cash into his bag. He then sped away on a Honda Scoopy-i motorbike which was parked in front of the bank.”
Thalang Police Chief Col Teerawat Liamsuwan says, “The suspect has then headed towards Phuket Town. The man robbed the bank just after the bank had been opened and there were not many customers. We are now hunting for the suspect to retrieve the money and charge him.”
