Last body from the Phuket boat disaster recovered
Last night (July 15) divers recovered the final body from ‘Phoenix’. The body had been wedged under the boat. The body was brought back to the Phuket Deep Sea Port before transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital.
The body arrived at the port at 8:50pm. Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Lyu Jian, the Chinese Consul-General in Songkhla Zhou Haicheng and Phuket Governor Norraphat Plodthong and others presided over one minutes’ silence ceremony for the 47 bodies.
Ambassador Lyu Jian says, “Our deepest condolences to people who lost their family and people who have been injured in this incident.”
“Both Thai and Chinese governments are paying attention to this incident, finding missing people, taking care of injured passengers and the people who lost their loved ones.”
“Thank you to the Thai government, everybody who has expressed sympathy during this difficult recovery process and shown a good relationship between Thailand and China.”
“To Chinese people, no matter where you are, we will always find you and bring you back home.”
“We hope to find the cause of this incident and expect Thai authorities to follow the law. This incident will be a sad lesson to improve tourism safety in order to improve tourism confidence for Chinese travellers.”
