Call for Gov, Phuket to support “Silvy The Star’
PHUKET: All of Phuket will be cheering on Pavida “Silvy” Moriggi this evening when the 15-year-old Kajonkietsuksa School student takes the stage in round three of the nationally-televised reality television series The Star 7.
Only six contestants remain in the hugely-popular nationwide talent search; one will be voted off after this evening’s competition.
Silvy’s mother and school principal called on Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha at Phuket Provincial Hall yesterday, asking him to spread a message of support among his officers.
Already banners bearing Sylvy’s image, along with the sms code fans can use to vote for her, can be seen on many Phuket Town street corners.
“I would like to ask all southern people, especially from Phuket, to vote for her and help her to get through this round,” said Silvy’s mother, Somkiet Chanton.
Ms Somkiet is Silvy’s sole surviving parent. Her Italian father passed away when Silvy was just 10 years old.
“Silvy has joined many regional and national singing contests, but this is her first time in this competition. Although she is confident of her voice, she is always rehearsing.
“I am so proud of her. I go to cheer her at every concert she does,” Ms Somkiet added.
Kajonkietsuksa School Director Thidaporn Laowisetkun voiced her support for her star student, who is currently completing Matthayom 4 (Grade 10) in the school’s English Program.
“Silvy is an outstanding student. She has studied here since she was in nursery and all the children and teachers – and even parents of other students – know her.
“This is a good activity. She is representing Phuket and Kajonkietsuksa School. We support and cheer her in every way,” said Ms Thidaporn.
“Silvy is currently in Bangkok to rehearse for the show, which meant she had to miss her final exams. We will let her do them after she comes back,” she added.
Young Silvy has gained popularity across Thailand for her strong singing style, despite her young age.
As a Phuket teenager gaining national popularity as a singer, Silvy is emulating her role model, Wichayanee “Gam” Pearklin.
Now known as “Gam the Star”, Miss Wichayanee won the talent show in 2008 while finishing Year 12 at Phuket Satree School.
Round three of The Star will be on Channel 9 from 9:30 to 11:30pm tonight, immediately after Earth Hour.
To vote for Silvy, call *49304 or send an SMS with the message *4 (asterisk4, with no spaces) to 4242899.
