Woman arrested, 2,550 pills seized in ya bah bust
THALANG: A 33-year-old woman was arrested early Tuesday morning for possession of 2,550 ya bah (methamphetamine) pills, according to a press release read by Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit at Phuket Provincial Hall on Tuesday.
A team from the Phuket Provincial Police drug suppression unit and Border Patrol Police 425, who are based in Takuapa, Phang Nga, set up a sting operation.
Undercover police arranged to meet Phuket-native Naiyana “Na” Budhem in front of an unnumbered house on Thepkrasattri Rd in Baan Nanai, Thalang, to buy 200 ya bah pills, said Gov Niran.
After being arrested at the scene just after midnight, Na was escorted to her home on Thepkrasattri Rd in nearby Baan Prusomparn, where police found an additional 2,350 ya bah pills, he added.
Police took Na to Thalang Police Station, where she told them that she had bought the pills from a man she named only as “A”, said Gov Niran.
Maj Anukul Nuket of Thalang Police Station told the Gazette, “We have charged Na with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
“She said she bought the 200 pills from “A” for 45,000 baht and tried to sell them for 48,000 baht. Na told us that “A” brought the pills from Ang Thong province and then sold them to Na at Baan Kian market,” he said.
Police are continuing their investigation, Maj Anukul added.
