Two dead, two seriously injured in rain-drenched Krabi crash
KRABI:Two people were killed and two more seriously injured in a mid-morning car crash in Krabi.
“Reports of the accident came in about 10:30am. It took place near the Nua Khlong junction,” said Lt Col Suthorn Kampaphan of the Nua Khlong Police. “A white SUV was wedged into a brown pick-up truck, with two people trapped inside each vehicle.”
Rescuers needed to use ‘jaws of life’ cutters to help extract the victims from the twisted metal remains of the two Isuzu vehicles.
The victims were rushed to Nua Khlong hospital.
“The driver of the brown pick-up, Sabaidee Thongman, 70, as well as the passenger, Kruawan Thongman, 61, were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital,” Col Suthorn said. “The driver of the white SUV, Somyos Chinchiew, 51, and passenger Pranee Chinchiew, 51, both received chest injuries and bruises.”
Witnesses reported that the pick-up truck was on its way from Khao Panom toward Nua Khlong district when they saw it slide on a curve and lose control. The SUV then slammed into the rear of the pick-up truck. The witnesses claimed that heavy rain and slippery road conditions were the cause of the crash.
“At this stage, we have yet to press charges, as we need to question the survivors and take their stories into account,” Col Suthorn said.
