Tourist crashes jet-ski into yacht, dies

PHUKET: A tourist died in hospital after crashing a jet-ski into a yacht anchored at Nui Bay, off Phi Phi Island, yesterday.

Wu Xixiong, 46, was taken to Phi Phi Hospital with a broken neck, jaw, arm and leg. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was transferred to Bangkok Hospital Phuket, confirmed Surasak Mongkolchaiyasit of the Krabi Marine Office.

Mr Wu succumbed to his injuries at about 11pm.

Mr Wu had joined a tour yesterday on a yacht, June, skippered by British national David Milner.

After arriving at Phi Phi, Mr Wu took the jet-ski that was housed in June out to Nui Bay, where he crashed into Dao Taley 2.

Police will not investigate the incident further, as Mr Wu’s relatives agreed to pay compensation to the owner of Dao Taley 2 for the damage caused, said Maj Segsak Boonlirt of the Phi Phi Police Station.

Mr Surasak confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that his office would also not continue their investigation, despite jet-skis being banned at Phi Phi.
