Take a policeman home

CHALONG: Chalong police are now more visible around the clock in response to an increase in muggings in the Chalong, Rawai and Nai Harn areas. Pol Col Sati Malakanond, Superintendent of Chalong Police Station, told the Gazette, “It’s not just tourists that have been attacked. So have locals and foreign residents running businesses.” Police officers are now more visible at night, he said. He also advised those running late-opening businesses such as pubs and restaurants to ask the police to escort them home. Col Sati said, “They have to carry money from the business to their home, so it’s quite tempting for thieves. I suggest they call 191 and ask for an officer to accompany them home.” Patrol officers also visit, every two hours, premises in the Chalong area where there are red police boxes (indicating that the owners are away) as well as isolated places such as Nai Harn Beach and the Kata viewpoint. In an emergency, he said, police can be reached at any of the following telephone numbers around the clock: Col Sati at Tel: 01-6778833; Crime Suppression officers at Chalong police station at Tel: 01-8930845; and Pol Capt Pongnarin Suthin at Tel: 01-9700108. “We provide services around the clock.” said Col Sati.
