Spectacle launches Pian&’s election campaign
PATONG: Former mayor Pian Keesin launched the Palang Patong Party’s (Patong Power – PPP) municipal election campaign at the weekend with a spectacular fair and a stage show that drew an audience of 500 people. PPP supporters who gathered outside the candidate’s house on Phra Baramee Rd enjoyed a free buffet, drinks and the show, plus a big-screen presentation of policies. The show, consisting of songs created by a writing team in Bangkok to highlight the party’s policies, came after a biplane with “Palang Patong Party” printed on its wings flew over to drop flowers on the crowd. Cameras carried the atmosphere of Saturday night’s fair onto the big screen behind the stage as the MC asked local people what they thought about K. Pian, his policies and his record when he was mayor. Education is to be a key in PPP campaigning, with a promise of more schools in Patong so that students do not have to travel to Phuket Town for their education. After the show, K Pian appeared on stage with the 22 members of the PPP. He explained to the audience that the group were highly educated and experienced when it came to finance, “so the problem of corruption or seeking to buy votes will not happen with our team. It is not our method.” The two-horse race pits the former mayor and his PPP against incumbent mayor Surasak Maneesri, who plans to launch the campaign for his Patong Gao-na (Patong Progress) group on Saturday (September 28). The council will dissolve on October 3 and an election must follow within 45 days.
