Running after dark – Thanyapura Neon Night Run

PHUKET: Grab your glow sticks and get ready for the inaugural Neon Night Run, a glow-in-the-dark family fun run at Thanyapura Phuket.

Entrance to the five-hour neon-themed races and festivities costs 300 baht and will kick off at 5pm on May 31.

The fun run is stacked with events with four fun-run categories for kids, ranging from 500 meters up to three kilometers; a 1,500 meter run for school parents and teachers; a four-person, two kilometer open relay; and a five kilometer open fun run and walk.

The center pitch of Thanyapura’s athletics track, will host the Neon Night Party with bright lights, balloons, face-painting and a jumping castle. There will also be market vendors, food and beverage stalls and a DJ jamming for the after glow party.

The event is open to anyone interested in playing with neons or getting on the professional track to do some laps.

Thanyapura is encouraging Phuket’s schools and sports clubs to put their own teams together for a chance to be awarded the Thanyapura School Cup, which will go to the team with the most entrants and top race results. (Parents and teachers can contribute to points, so it won’t just be the kids out there doing all the hard work.) School teams will need at least five girls and five boys to enter the competition.

Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in each race and for the best team performances.

There will also be prizes for the best Neon costumes so start preparing now to get your glow on.
