Road record: British fire engine “Martha’ makes it to Phuket

PHUKET: A team of Britons who are attempting to circumnavigate the globe in their fire engine “Martha” rolled into Patong this afternoon.

Since setting out from London on July 18, Steve Moore and his “follow that fire engine” team have passed through 20 countries, clocking up over 12,000 miles.

By the end of their trip the team will have driven through five continents, 28 countries and traveled over 26,000 miles when they arrive back in London in March next year.

And the reason for the epic adventure?

The team are raising money in memory of Steve’s fire-fighter father Garth, who died from lung cancer on July 18, 2009.

All donations will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, The Fire Fighters Charity and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. To date, they have raised over 70,000 UK pounds

The trip is being tracked by Guinness World Records.
