Rajabhat students scoop arts contest
PHUKET TOWN: Students from Rajabhat Institute Phuket scooped the top six prizes in the “King, Regatta and Phuket” drawing and essay writing competition, which drew some 230 entrants. The competition was aimed at involving the local community more closely in the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, which takes place early next month. The students received their prizes on Sunday at the Tesco Lotus Supercenter from Chien Srirueng, an officer at the Phuket Provincial Education Office. Suppachai Kingkaew, an arts student, received 3,500 baht for winning the art contest with his mosaic of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Phuket Town and yachts racing in the regatta. He also received sailing lessons worth 20,000 baht from Sunsail, at the Boat Lagoon, after his work was judged the best overall entry in the contest. Witoon Ungsuppanitch came second, followed by Inthira Piromjit. They won 3,000 baht and 2,500 baht respectively. Gatgaeo Petsawang, an English-major student, won the 3,500-baht top prize in the essay-writing contest. She said, “I spent almost a week thinking about the plot and theme of the essay. Writing an essay in English is so different from writing in Thai because English grammar is totally different.” Niksoffwanee Longnoh and Athairat Muangkong came second and third respectively, winning 3,000 baht and 2,500 baht respectively. In addition to the cash prizes, all six also won three hours of computer lessons at Siam Computer & Language School on Phang Nga Rd, Phuket Town.
