Phuket set for historical extravaganza

THALANG, PHUKET: The year’s first performance of ‘Thalang Light and Sound’, a grand re-enactment of the Battle of Thalang featuring a cast of 700, will take place in Phuket tomorrow night.

The historical extravaganza has been organized by Phuket Provincial Administration Organization at a cost of six million baht.

It will run from 8pm to 9:30pm at Thalang Victory Memorial Park near the Heroines’ Monument.

The show will be repeated on Sunday and Monday at the same time.

The performances are the climax of the Heroines’ Memorial Fair, which started on March 6.

The annual event celebrates the Siamese victory against a Burmese invasion force at the Battle of Thalang in 1785.

Statues of Jan and Muk, the ‘Two Heroines’ who led the Siamese, still stand at Heroines’ Monument today.
