Phuket move up to 8th in Youth Games

PHUKET: Phuket now sits in 8th place in the standings of the 28th National Youth Games (Phuket Games 2012), after picking up a number of gold medals in recent days.
Phuket has already grabbed medals in many events, including karate, taekwondo, bowling, and wushu. And today many more medals are to be contested.
For those seeking to cheer on the home team, the Phuket girls 7-a-side rugby team will take on Nan at the Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Center on Thepkrasattri at 4:20pm today for a chance to make it to the finals match scheduled for 8:30pm. Also taking place until 5pm today at the center is the Thanyapura Carnival. For more information about all the fun activities click here.
Also, the Phuket boy’s softball team is taking on Rayong in a first round match at Sanamchai, opposite Phuket Provincial Hall.
The outdoor sports could be sloppy affairs, however. The 24-hour forecast for Phuket for the period starting at noon today calls for “fairly widespread” thundershowers over 70 per cent of the province, southwesterly winds up to 35kmh, and wave heights of two meters, higher in storm areas.
The top nine medal holders out of the 77 provinces are:
Bangkok: 67 golds
Chonburi: 25
Chiang Mai 22
Nakhon Sri Thammarat: 22
Suphanburi: 21
Samut Prakan 15
Surat Thani: 13
Phuket: 12
Chanthaburi: 12
