Phuket announces recycling drive

PHUKET: Phuket’s Wichit Municipality will hold a two-day recycling drive this week as part of its ‘sort, re-use and recycle’ campaign to reduce the volume of solid waste sent to Saphan Hin for incineration.

All members of the public are encouraged to sort recyclable wastes such as glass, tin and plastic and bring it to the children’s playground at the Tharnthong Housing estate on Pattana Thongthin Road on January 20 or 21.

The drive will be the first in a series of monthly events.

Dates and times of subsequent collections are as follows:

February 17-18: Children’s playground, Irawadee 1 housing estate, Narang-Borrae Road

March 17-18: Children’s playground, Phuket Villa 3 housing estate, Chao Fa West Road

April 21-22: Children’s playground, Laemthong housing estate, Soi Suksan, Chao Fa West Road

The campaign is expected to raise awareness of municipal solid waste management problems and develop community participation in keeping Wichit green.
