Phuket Red Cross launches March mobile donation mission

PHUKET: The Red Cross Society in Phuket has announced its upcoming mobile donation clinic schedule for the month of March in hopes of restoring essential blood stocks.

“We currently only have 20 units of blood type A, 120 units of type B, 190 units of type O and 50 units of type AB,” said Chief Pornthip Rattajak of the Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC).

“We need to maintain a minimum supply of 170 units of A, B, and O blood types and we are always in need of more Rhesus-negative blood.”

The PRBC often calls on Phuket residents to donate blood that could save the life of both locals and foreigners.

Most recently, an urgent call for Rh-negative blood was made for a local teacher, Dean Jackson, after he broke his leg in a motorbike accident. Donors stepped forward and provided enough blood for doctors to be able to carry out the necessary surgery to repair his fractured leg (story here).
