Phuket Drift: Pickup makes move, flips, crashes

PHUKET: A pickup truck thwarted in a passing maneuver on Thepkrasattri Road flipped over and landed upside down on the median in Mai Khao yesterday morning.

The cab was partially crushed by the impact, but the passenger and driver escaped with only minor injuries.

Called to the scene at Baan Suan Maphrao at about 10:30am, police found Wutirai Chuchuay, 26, with a head wound and Nappadol Koomsuk, 32, with pain in his shoulder.

Mr Wutirai, the driver, told police that the pair were on their way to Phuket Town and trying to overtake a truck when the accident happened.

“I was on the right passing a 10-wheeled truck when it started drifting over into my lane and I had to go farther right to avoid colliding with him,” he said. “I ended up on the median.”

Rescue workers treated the two men and took them to Thalang Hospital.

Police are looking for the truck that drifted over, said Capt Santi Prakorbparn of Tah Chat Chai Police.
