Phang Nga OrBorJor replace slain chairman
PHANG NGA: Members of the Phang Nga Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) have chosen not one, but two, chairmen who will take turns as replacements for Nithas Siribenjakul, who was gunned down at Takuapa bus terminus on July 30.
Phang Nga OrBorJor deputy chairman Suthas Boonchot today told the Gazette that Arkom Thongjerm from Tap Put district will hold the post for two years, followed by Auychai Ponphrom from Thung Maphrao district.
Nithas was appointed chairman, usually a four-year term, on May 13.
K. Suthas explained that the OrBorJor members will meet on August 13 to officially ratify the decision.
He added that police were continuing their investigation into the murder, but that he had heard of no breakthrough. “The OrBorJor members are afraid that the case will be put in a drawer and forgotten because police will be unable to solve it.
“Therefore we have asked for OrBorJor President Anant Boonyarak to request that the police expedite their investigation into this case,” he said.
K. Suthas confirmed that Nithas was involved in many conflicts because of his “strong” behavior and his inflexibility when he believed he was right.
He added that one of these conflicts involved a senior police officer, over an incident during which Nithas fired a gun into the air. This incident resulted in Nithas’s arrest on trespass charges. The case was going through the court when the OrBorJor chairman was shot dead.
