New Naval commander installed
AO MAKHAM: Rear-Admiral Supot Pruksa was promoted to Vice-Admiral and installed as Commanding Officer of the Third Naval Area Command this morning, replacing Tana Bunnag who has been promoted to “Deputy Chief of Staff Officer to Commander” in Bangkok.
The ceremony took place at 10 am, when the officers and sailors under V/Adm Supot reported to their new commander, the 11th man to hold the position.
At the ceremony V/Adm Supot said, “My main responsibility is to ensure Thailand’s security and to protect Thai waters and Thai people, including anyone at sea who is under the protection of Thai sovereignty and under the protection of the Royal Thai Navy.
“I must also protect Thailand’s natural environment and have urged government officials to make this a high priority.”
V/Adm Supot said that he also intends to build upon the policies put in place by his predecessor, Deputy Chief Tana.
“If a storm or disaster comes, we have many large vessels ready to help people at sea and in coastal areas. We have a good emergency-action plan in place from the outgoing naval commander, which I will further develop and apply,” he added.
