Navy thanks Governor with flowers

PHUKET: The Commander in Chief of the Royal Thai Navy Third Fleet, Vice Admiral Sathirapan Keyanon, today presented Phuket Governor Pongpayome Vasaputi with flowers to thank him for his role in resolving the Cape Panwa blockade last week. The Governor played a central role in resolving the blockade by local villagers after a Navy non-commissioned officer shot a local Muslim teenager. “It’s all over, so I don’t want to add any further comment,” Admiral Sathirapan told the Gazette. “I assure you that the matter will be dealt with fairly. “I hope the next time we get such extensive press coverage that it will be under better circumstances,” he added. He made his comments at a 20-minute press conference at the Governor’s office, after which the two men discussed behind closed doors how to deal with the villagers’ remaining two demands, which are: – That the Navy will transfer all sailors involved in the events that led to the murder – along with all other sailors who have behaved badly and bothered villagers – to other bases within six months. – That a committee consisting of village representatives and the Navy will meet once a month to discuss all matters concerning relationships between the village and the base.
