Man drowns while fishing
RAWAI: Chartchai Chumkaew, 27, from Nakorn Sri Thammarat, drowned after being sucked into the sea Friday while fishing near Nai Harn Beach, Rawai. His body was found Sunday by a scuba diving team.
K. Chartchai reportedly went fishing among the rocks at Ao Sane Bungalows near Nai Harn Beach. It is thought that a large swell pulled him off the rocks and into the sea. His family and friends searched for him in vain.
Pol Maj Chana Suttimat of Chalong Police Station said, “The diving team found him yesterday at noon. We sent his body to Wachira Phuket Hospital and have determined that he died by drowning.
“We have already sent his remains on to Nakorn Sri Thammarat where the funeral will be held.”
Maj Chana added that a Japanese tourist nearly drowned at Kata Beach on the same day, but was saved by a Phuket Provincial Administration Organization (OrBorJor) rescue team using jet-skis.
Phuket Tourist Rescue Center Chief Suntorn Tabtab told the Gazette that red flags have been posted at beaches to alert visitors and locals alike to the danger of going into the water, but that some beachgoers ignore the warnings.
