Major fire drills to be held in Phuket City
PHUKET CITY: Aroon Kerdsom, chief of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM-Phuket) office, has announced that fire-evacuation drills will be held in Phuket City tomorrow in order to improve emergency-response plans.
A fire drill will be held at the Government Housing Bank, on Bangkok Rd, at 7 am, followed by another drill at The Metropole hotel at 9:30am.
A meeting is being held from 12.30 pm to 5 pm today so that officers who will lead the emergency-response teams can present their response plans to Phuket Governor Niran Kalayanamit.
“We will have large-scale tests of our fire-evacuation procedures at the Government Housing Bank and The Metropole hotel. The purpose of these drills is to boost the confidence of our officers and the emergency-response workers, guests and public,” K. Aroon said.
“Governor Niran has made it clear that the three most important aspects we are to practice are: 1) evacuating people from the buildings; 2) improving firefighters’ ability to quickly extinguish fires; and 3) having quick, clear instructions from those in command of the operations.”
