Limo drivers win victory over “black’ taxis
MAI KHAO: Limousine drivers at the airport went back to work at 5 pm today after receiving a written assurance that “black” taxis will be barred from the airport and car park except in certain specific circumstances. The assurance, from the Provincial Government, stated that black taxi drivers will be allowed to drop passengers at the airport but will not be allowed to pick up fares except when they have been booked in advance by a specific customer. Mana Singkhorn, a member of the committee of the Phuket Limousine and Business Cooperative, which represents the limousine drivers, said police will start checking black taxis tomorrow in front of the terminal building and at the exit from the car park to see whether they are carrying passengers who have not booked. “If they are, they will be fined 2,000 baht,” he explained.
