In love with stickers

PHUKET: Tragedies often heighten “sense of community” among their survivors. The personal – as opposed to government – response to the tsunami in Phuket has been broad, swift, and convincing, with seemingly endless stories of goodwill and good deeds.

In the hope that the wave of community spirit might continue undiminished over the next few months until tourism resumes its natural upward course, the Phuket Gazette launched its “We Love Phuket” campaign two weeks ago.

Each week, three owners of vehicles with “We Love Phuket” stickers affirming their affection for the island are awarded some noteworthy prizes, all donated by businesses who also love Phuket.

Last week’s winners were each given a choice of dinner for two at The Boathouse, dinner for two at Rockfish, or a complimentary one-year subscription to the Phuket Gazette with free home delivery. Next week’s winners will be offered similar bounty, including a round trip ticket to Singapore on SilkAir!

There’s again a complimentary sticker on page 5 in the current (May 7) issue of the Phuket Gazette, along with an announcement of the license plate numbers of the winning cars last week.

Residents or visitors wishing to have additional stickers are welcome to contact LovePhuket@PhuketGazette.Net, or Khun Pam at 076-236555.

Stick a sticker on your car today and let one of our reporters spot you. Then look to see if your license plate is among the winners in next week’s Gazette. Even if it isn’t, you’ll still be telling everyone how you feel about the island we all call home.
