Film fest coming to Jungceylon

PATONG: The first-ever Phuket Film Festival will be held from September 30 to October 6 to mark the opening of the SF Cinema, due to open soon at Jungceylon Shopping Center in Patong.

The state-run Andaman News service this morning reported the Tourism Authority of Thailand as saying it hopes the festival will become an annual event.

The film festival will feature over 30 award-winning films from different countries, with international film industry personalities – including some big Hollywood names – expected to attend.

Special showcases will highlight films from Malaysia, the Philippines and Portugal. It is also intended to promote Phuket as a film shoot location, the report said.

Event organizer Scott Rosenberg of Bangkok-based AMW International Company told the Gazette that the film festival would be formally announced at a press conference to be held in Patong in mid-June.

“It really is going to be a super event. I can’t tell you who is coming from Hollywood and South Korea yet, but some big name people are coming!” he told the Gazette.
