Daniel Jackson dies of heart attack

RAWAI: Long-time Nai Harn resident Daniel Leroy Jackson died of a heart attack early Tuesday morning at Phuket International Hospital. He was 62.

Friends and neighbors James and Pat Domville informed the Gazette of Mr Jackson’s passing this morning.

Originally from Baltimore in the US state of Maryland, Mr Jackson was a Vietnam War veteran who worked as chief public transport safety engineer for the cities of Los Angeles and Las Vegas before moving to Thailand.

One of the very few African Americans living in Phuket, Mr Jackson was a well-educated and articulate man whose interests included music, golf and politics.

Fluent in Thai, he fell in love with Thailand during the Vietnam War and retired to Phuket about seven years ago.

He is survived by his wife Kaysorn and their daughter Nikki.

A funeral and cremation ceremony will be held from 10 am until noon tomorrow at Wat Sansook, near Robinson’s department store, in Phuket City.

Mr Jackson’s many friends on the island are invited to pay last respects.
