Charity rally to support Phuket Stray Dog Shelter

PHUKET: The sixth “Rally Dogkar” charity fundraiser will take place in Phuket this weekend, giving dog lovers and their pampered pets a chance to raise money for about 500 less-fortunate animals cooped up at the provincial dog pound in Thalang.
The event, which runs from 8:30am to 3pm on Sunday, will start with registration at “Cafe de Lad” at the Phuket Indy Market on Deebuk Road in Phuket Town.
Participants are encouraged to donate dog food and dog supplies such as shampoo, mosquito coils and medicine. All donated items will be collected by staff from the Phuket Stray Dog Shelter off Thepkrasattri Road in Mai Khao, Thalang.
Event t-shirts designed by celebrities Arak “Pae” Amornsupasiri, Sarawut “Aon” Martthong and the Thai pop band KLEAR will be on sale at 180 baht, with 20 baht from each sale to be donated to the shelter.
After registration is complete, participants and their pets will form a caravan and head in the direction of Khao Kad Viewpoint at Cape Panwa for a photo session. From there, they will head down to the final destination: Ao Yon, the bay between Cape Panwa and Khao Khad Cape.
Apart from its fund-raising aspect, organizers say the rally also gives a chance for dog lovers to enjoy fun activities with their dogs, and gives the dogs a chance to interact with one another.
