Breaking News: Surin Beach demolition underway

PHUKET: Demolition of the last remaining buildings along Surin Beach is underway.

Phuket Vice Governor Chokdee Amornwat and Cherng Talay Tambon Administration Organization
(OrBorTor) President Ma-ann Samran, accompanied by military personnel, were on site as a backhoe digger began pulling apart the buildings that once housed beachfront shops, bars and restaurants.

“Finally, the day we have been waiting for has arrived and it’s time to return the beach to its natural beauty,” said Mr Ma-ann.

Addressing stunned tourists, Vice Governor Chokdee told them not to panic and said they were free to enjoy the beach as normal, despite the demolition.

“I heard the tourists say that we are destroying the most beautiful place in Thailand. I wanted them to know that in fact the opposite is true,” V/Gov Chokdee said.

“These buildings are illegal as they were built on public beach front land. We are reclaiming the land to restore the natural beauty to Surin.”
