Bad numbers for gamblers

PHUKET: May 1 to May 25 was a bad time for Phuket’s gamblers, who once again topped the island’s arrests league. According to statistics released by the Phuket Provincial Police, a total of 167 people were arrested on charges related to gambling during the period. In second place were the 145 people held on narcotics charges. This figure included ya bah busts, which also netted 1,954 pills of the illegal drug. Third were illegal immigrants; 121 of them were arrested. Three people were arrested for manslaughter, one for rape, and five for wounding. Five people were arrested on prostitution charges, while six were held for illegal possession of firearms. A total of 26 people were arrested for theft, including one for stealing motorcycles. One case of car theft was reported, but no arrest was made during the period covered by the statistics.
