Amateurs tee off at first Open
PHUKET: The Phuket Country Club will host the Phuket Golf Association’s first Amateur Open this Saturday.
The event is open to both Thai and tourist amateurs and will feature cash and prizes, said Phuket Golf Association Chief Terayout Prasertphol.
“The competition will follow the rules of the United States Golf Association (USGA), The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, as well as the local rules of the Phuket Golf Association,” said Mr Terayout.
The competition will include six different ‘flights’.
Flight A includes handicaps 1-9; Flight B, handicaps 10-18; Flight C, handicaps 19-24; Flight D, handicaps 25-36; a flight for the over-60s; and a women’s flight.
“We’re offering a Mazda 2 for anyone who shoots a hole-in-one on hole 17, and 20,000 baht cash for a hole-in-one on hole 3,” Mr Terayout said.
The application deadline is 9am on May 28 and the tournament begins at 11am. The application costs 2,500 baht per person.
“More than 100 participants have already signed up,” Mr Terayout told the Phuket Gazette.
