Adultery the suspected motive in latest Burmese murder
PHUKET CITY: A Burmese man died after having his throat cut yesterday afternoon at the grocery store where he worked near Rassada Port. Police suspect adultery may have been the motive for the killing.
Pol Lt Sathit Noorit, Duty Officer at Phuket City Police Station, told the Gazette, “I received a report of a stabbing about 2:30 pm yesterday. I and some other officers then rushed to the scene, a grocery store near the fishing pier in Tambon Rassada, Village 7.
“The victim was already dead when we arrived at the scene. His throat had been cut.”
Lt Sathit explained that people at the scene were not sure why the man was attacked, but many had said that the man had been having an illicit affair with a Thai woman who was married to another Burmese man.
“However, no-one was prepared to name the woman in question. We must wait until we have all the evidence before we can say for sure,” Lt Sathit said.
“We know the victim was a Burmese laborer who worked in the grocery store, but we must wait for his employer to come forward with his documents so we can name him,” he added.
The body is now at Vachira Phuket Hospital, awaiting identification and collection by relatives.
