Who you gonna call?

AYUDHAYA: There is a new craze amongst Ayudhaya teenagers. They phone a certain number which is answered by a spooky woman’s voice. The teenagers believe that this voice is that of the ghost of a woman from Lopburi who was murdered in Bangkok. A rather modern ghost – the mysterious number is 09-6626840, a mobile phone. When a reporter called the number a woman’s voice answered the phone, sobbing, and said, “Sawasdee ka. I’m feeling very bad. I just want to talk to somebody. I’m scared. Khrop khun ka.” Then there was a beep for an answering machine. The number can be reached only when the dialer uses an 1800-system phone. Neither landlines nor GSM systems nor 900 system cell phones could connect. The reporter checked with the company providing the 1800 system about rumors that this was a ploy to get customers to use their phones more, thus increasing the company’s revenue. The company said that it could not divulge information about who the number belonged to unless it received an official letter from the police, but added that it would never do something like that to increase revenue. Ayuthaya police said they’d never come across a case like this before, but that they believed the person behind it must be up to no good. They warned people not to call the number; apart from wasting their money, they might, if they left their phone number on the answering machine, find it being cloned or otherwise misused. The police vowed to contact the company to find out the owner of the number and to investigate further.
