PM tunes up tourism: Bangkok’s Song Wat set to hit high notes
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin directed the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to enhance the promotion of Song Wat, one of Bangkok’s most historic trading areas, as a prime tourism destination.
Following a walk along Song Wat Road and discussions with young entrepreneurs yesterday, the Thai premier expressed on his X account, formerly Twitter, that the area has significant potential for development and is attracting interest from both Thai and international tourists.
Song Wat, located in the old city, boasts unique historic buildings that have been renovated and transformed into restaurants, cafes, and art galleries by young entrepreneurs.
The 62 year old prime minister highlighted the strong commitment of local entrepreneurs to transforming the area into a thriving economic district.
“I think we should promote the area more, so I asked the TAT and the BMA to draw up a public relations plan and state agencies to improve public utilities and safety to support tourism.”
Following his visit to Song Wat, the Thai prime minister went to the Bon Kai community on Rama IV Road in the Klong Toey area to address various community issues, including poor living conditions, flooding, and financial difficulties.
The Bangkok-born PM promised to urge state agencies to investigate these problems and proposed the idea of upgrading the Bon Kai community to serve as a model for development.
PM Srettha was also stopped by Khok Khram police station to monitor the government’s initiatives to combat narcotic drugs, online gambling, and informal debts among citizens.
This visit came after the Thai prime minister’s return from an official trip to France, Italy, and Japan, which concluded last Friday, reported Bangkok Post.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra voiced his unwavering support for PM Srettha amidst a Constitutional Court case that threatens to unseat him.
