Jealous Burmese man fatally attacks 13 year old ex and her father
Thai police officers arrested a jealous Burmese man in the northern province of Tak three hours after he fatally attacked his 13 year old ex-girlfriend and her father. The attacker claimed that his ex-girlfriend’s father assaulted him first.
Officers from Mae Sot Police Station were called to investigate the crime scene near Somdet Phra Chao Taksin Public Park in the Mae Sot district of Tak yesterday, September 2.
The injured Burmese victims, a 55 year old man named Mong-ae and his 13 year old daughter named Khaimook, were sent to hospital before the police arrived. The two suffered severe cuts to their heads and later died in hospital.
A witness told police that Khaimook’s Burmese ex-boyfriend was the murderer. Officers found glasses and a red hat believed to belong to the attacker at the scene.
At about 3am yesterday, three hours after the fatal attack took place, police managed to arrest Khaimook’s ex-boyfriend, 24 year old Joe, at a wooden cottage in the same district. He admitted to the crime and confirmed that the glasses and hat were his.
Joe confessed that he had broken up with Khaimook two months ago but still felt jealous after seeing her dating a new man. She shared a picture of herself and her new boyfriend on Facebook, which made him angry.
Joe claimed that he decided to go to Khaimook’s home to talk with her about his feelings. However, Khaimook’s father, Mong-ae, intervened and prevented him from seeing his daughter.
Joe and Mong-ae engaged in an argument, which later escalated into a physical altercation. Joe accused Mong-ae of attacking him first, prompting him to fatally attack Mong-ae.
Joe was charged under Section 288 of the Criminal Code: intentional murder. The penalty is death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment from 15 to 20 years.
Officers also discovered that Joe was living in Thailand illegally, leading to an additional charge under Section 81 of the Immigration Act: staying in the kingdom without permission. The penalty is imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both.
