Before getting intimate on Valentine’s Day, get tested for Covid-19. That’s the recommendation from Thailand’s Department of Disease Control. Authorities are advising couples to undergo a rapid antigen Covid-19 test before having sex.

The DDC director-general Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai expressed his concerns today that there might be an uptick in Covid-19 cases following Valentine’s Day. While couples are out on dates and enjoying dinner and drinks together, the director says everyone should still be aware of the spread of Covid-19. He recommended that those who want to join events or parties should evaluate their own risk using the Thai Save Thai application. And for safe sex, he says a couple should test negative in an ATK before getting it on.

In August of last year, the Department of Health released Covid “safe sex” recommendations which included wearing a face mask (and a condom), finding a position that is not face-to-face, and avoiding salvia… as well as other secretions. But now, with much of the public fully vaccinated and at-home test kits accessible, the DDC director says the recommendations are less strict.
