The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Phuket Office, held a marine rescue workshop at the Dara Hotel in Kathu this morning (March 19) chaired by Deputy Secretary General of the ministry, Santi Pawai.

The workshop was aiming to teach attendees about methods to deal with divers and customers in case of emergency, both underwater and on the surface, in the most professional way to ensure safety to both the rescuer and the diver. The course is primarily aimed at snorkeling tour operators. Also, the workshop explained about how to recognise an emergency situation, how to reach the diver, vital first aid that relates to diving and how to transfer the patient to the closest medical unit.

Apart from government organisations, there must be communities and businesses joining the development to make it safe and more efficient. The safety training for divers is important and is a part of good, sustainable tourism,” said Santi Pawai.
