2 Chinese and 4 Burmese nationals arrested in Bangkok salon raid

Thai Tourist Police officers arrested two Chinese and four Burmese nationals for illegally working at a beauty salon in the Rama 9 neighbourhood of Bangkok yesterday.

The Tourist Police launched a special operation called “Happy Chinese New Year 68” and raided a beauty salon in Rama 9, named Yinhaijinchuan Barber & Salon, where the Chinese suspects were arrested. In addition to the two Chinese nationals, officers also discovered Burmese individuals working illegally at the place.

The arrested foreigners were identified as:

  • A 40 year old Chinese man, Chen
  • A 31 year old Chinese man, Yang
  • An 18 year old Burmese woman, Line
  • A 23 year old Burmese woman, May
  • A 23 year old Burmese woman, Khai
  • A 19 year old Burmese woman, Moe

There is no report on the identity of the salon owner. According to Matichon, the salon primarily targeted Chinese clients, offering a range of services from haircuts to spa treatments.

The suspects were transferred to Huay Kwang Police Station for legal proceedings. All of them were charged under Section 7 of the Foreigners’ Working Management Act for working illegally in restricted occupations. The penalty is a fine of 5,000 to 50,000 baht, deportation, and a two-year ban on applying for a work permit.

The four Burmese nationals were also charged with violating Section 81 of the Immigration Act by entering or remaining in the kingdom without permission. The penalty for this offence is imprisonment for up to two years and a fine of up to 20,000 baht.

A similar salon raid occurred earlier in January when police arrested four South Korean nationals at a salon in the Sukhumvit neighbourhood of Bangkok. One Burmese national was discovered at this salon as well, but this individual was legally employed in Thailand.

Another illegal salon raid took place in December last year in Bangkok. In this instance, police raided a barber shop in the Bang Khun Thian district and arrested four Burmese nationals for working illegally as barbers.

In November last year, a Chinese woman was arrested for illegally running a beauty salon and her six Chinese employees were arrested for working in the banned profession.
