Screen grab of attack on pickup truck and driver with iron bar.

A Phuket man smashed a pickup truck and hit the driver with an iron bar, injuring the driver. The incident, reported in The Phuket Express last night, occurred on Sunday, April 23 in Talad Nuea in Phuket’s main city district.

According to the Phuket City Police, the pickup truck driver, identified only as Suriya, was waiting at a red light with his wife and two year old child. The suspect, identified as 30 year old Narong, approached the vehicle with a 70-centimetre-long iron bar.

Narong hit the front glass windshield of the pickup truck, the pickup truck’s side window, and Suriya’s arm. Suriya admitted that there was a prior road rage incident with a motorbike rider.

A video clip of the incident shows Narong enraged as he whacks the pickup truck, and then continues to hit and chase after Suriya after he gets out of the pickup truck. Meanwhile, a man is seen trying to calm the situation down.

After the video clip went viral on social media, Narong and his father presented themselves to the police. Narong admitted to hitting the pickup truck and Suriya.

Phuket City Police are investigating the incident and are considering further legal action. The specifics of the road rage incident that took place prior to Narong attacking Suriya have not been made clear.

Earlier this week, there was another major rage-fuelled act of violence in Phuket.

On Monday night, a conflict at a Patong massage shop led to a car ramming and injuries. The driver, 25 year old Panudet, nicknamed Manao had had a conflict with Chatchanan “Patty” Charoenjai, the owner of the massage shop. Manao had driven his car to the shop to settle the conflict with Patty when he saw Patty with six other men, who were allegedly yelling at him.

The group reportedly approached the car, making Manao scared for his safety. Manao claimed that he panicked, and accidentally had the car in the “wrong gear” when tried to drive off, and instead rammed into motorbikes parked in front of the massage shop.
