Driver fuels up and bails, gaslighting Bangchak station

A black Mitsubishi sedan was captured on CCTV at a Bangchak petrol station in Mueang Khon Kaen district, Khon Kaen province, refuelling with 1,000 baht of Gasohol 95, before the driver feigned a payment scan and fled without paying. The petrol station is now using social media to seek information about the vehicle.
Manothai Thaopia, a 36 year old marketing employee, recounted that around 10.30am on March 18, the black car arrived at the pump closest to the entrance. After refuelling, the driver requested to scan a payment. As the attendant went to fetch the scanner, the driver sped away.
Immediately after the incident, the petrol station attendant reported the theft. CCTV footage was reviewed and used to file a police report with Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station. However, due to the camera angle, the car’s license plate was unclear.
The attendant is usually responsible for covering the cost but discussions are underway with management for support, as the incident was beyond the employee’s control. Manothai pleaded with those committing such acts to refrain, noting it causes hardship to honest workers.
Nawaphon Phumthat, a 52 year old petrol station attendant who served the car, said she has never faced such an incident in her three-year tenure. The driver, a man appearing to be about 40 years old with a dark complexion and an Isaan accent, lowered his window halfway and requested to pay via scan. As Nawaphon headed to the cashier for the scanner, the car drove off.
The incident left Nawaphon shocked and nervous. She attempted to note the car’s license plate, managing to recall that it began with the number 5 and ended with 86, reported KhaoSod.
The stolen 1,000 baht (US$30) equates to three days of work for her. Nawaphon urged customers to avoid such deceitful actions that cause distress to workers. She also advised other petrol station employees to stay vigilant for suspicious behaviour to prevent similar occurrences.
