A cunning scammer hoodwinked a food stall vendor in Pattaya out of her life savings.

Sakorn Kanawapee fell victim to a persuasive conman that resulted in her losing half a million baht.

The 42 year old food stall vendor filed a complaint at Nongprue Police Station that 500,000 baht had been stolen from her bank account after installing a hacker’s app on her smartphone.

According to Sakorn, she received a call from someone claiming to be from the Provincial Waterworks Authority. The caller told her that they needed her personal information to replace her water meter, Pattaya Mail reported.

The scammer directed Sakorn to download an Android app called “MWA OnMobile” and enter all of her personal details. She followed their instructions and left the app open. It wasn’t until later that she realized it could be a scam. She checked her bank account and her initial fears were realized – 500,000 baht was missing.

Sakorn is devastated by the loss of her life savings, and her family is now in financial distress. Unfortunately, there’s little she can do to recover the stolen money unless the police can track down the suspect.

This incident highlights the importance of being cautious and vigilant when it comes to sharing personal information and downloading apps from unknown sources. It’s essential to verify the identity of anyone requesting personal information and to always use trusted sources when downloading apps.

This is not the first time someone has been scammed and it won’t be the last as scammers become more sophisticated with their online trickery.

Earlier this year a Thai man was hacked to the tune of over 100,000 baht.

The victim insists he had not accessed any suspicious websites, taken any call centre calls or filled in any online forms but says his android phone was targeted by hackers.

It later emerged that the man had downloaded a dating app which managed to access his bank account and withdrew 10,560 baht.
