Today, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration recorded 188 coronavirus-related deaths and 13,897 new Covid-19 cases. Since April 1, in the latest and most severe wave of the virus in Thailand, the CCSA has recorded 1,405,374 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Out of the new cases reported today,1,697 were detected through proactive testing and 394 were found in correctional facilities. More than 40,000 inmates at Thailand’s overcrowded prisons and detention centres have tested positive for the virus over the past several months. Most of the local transmissions of the past several months have been in Bangkok, Chon Buri and provinces surrounding the capital.

The daily death count is still fairly high, but it is a downward trend. A CCSA spokesperson says many of the fatalities of Covid patients are those diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension. The spokesperson also urged pregnant women to get vaccinated as soon as possible due to a high number of deaths involving pregnant women infected with Covid-19.

In the 24-hour period since the last count, the CCSA recorded 13,527 recoveries. There are now 128,728 people being treated for the coronavirus, which is just under 200 more than the active case count yesterday.
