Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces danger in Brooklyn jail

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces significant danger at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, according to its former warden, Cameron Lindsay. Combs’ arrival at the facility on Tuesday followed the denial of his bail request.

Lindsay highlighted the risks Combs faces from other inmates, who might see attacking or even killing the hip-hop star as a prestigious act. For his safety, Combs is placed in the jail’s Special Housing Unit while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges.

Despite this protective measure, Combs’ life in MDC will be harsh. His daily routine includes strict supervision and a 6 am wake-up call, with only one hour of recreation. He will have limited visits from friends and family and will be allowed just three showers per week.

Additionally, Diddy must maintain his cell and adhere to an 1,800-calorie diet, with meals often served from a warming box.

Combs had previously tried to secure bail by promising minimal female visitors at his Miami Beach home and offering substantial sureties, including his and his mother’s homes and $50 million. However, his efforts were unsuccessful.

MDC has housed other high-profile inmates like R. Kelly, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Michael Cohen. The jail is notorious for its harsh conditions, violence, and drug smuggling.

MDC has been described as ‘hell on earth’ and has seen multiple murders and suicides since its opening in 1994. Four inmates have committed suicide in the past three years, and an inmate was murdered earlier this summer.

Sean Diddy Combs’ legal team has criticised the jail’s conditions, citing incidents like a power outage in 2019 that left inmates without heat, leading to protests and a $10 million class action lawsuit. Despite the settlement, conditions reportedly remain dire.

Marc Agnifilo, Combs’ lawyer, plans to appeal the decision to keep Combs in jail. Agnifilo asserts Combs’ innocence and determination to clear his name, maintaining that Combs came to New York to prove his innocence and is not intimidated by the charges against him.
