Morin family criticises Biden’s ‘lack of compassion’ over murder

Family criticises Biden's silence on mother's murder by illegal immigrant

Rachel Morin’s family, grieving the loss of the Maryland mother of five who was brutally murdered, criticised the Biden administration for its “lack of compassion” regarding her death. The family claims the suspected murderer, Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador.

Randolph Rice, the Morin family’s spokesperson, conveyed the family’s “deep” disappointment with President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their “lack of acknowledgment and compassion.”

Wednesday marked 75 days since Martinez-Hernandez, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant, was arrested in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for allegedly murdering the 37-year-old Morin.

“The Morin family is deeply disappointed by the lack of acknowledgment and compassion from President Biden and his administration,” they stated. “It has been 75 days since Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant who crossed our border multiple times, was captured. Yet, there has been no word from the White House.”

The family believes the Biden administration’s silence sends a “troubling message” that the “safety and well-being” of American citizens are “not a priority.”

“The silence is deafening, and it sends a troubling message that the safety and well-being of American citizens are not a priority,” the family noted. “This lack of concern demonstrates the Biden administration’s apparent disregard for the victims of preventable crimes committed by illegal immigrants. The Morin family, like many others, deserves recognition and action from their leaders to prevent such tragedies.”

The family, mourning the loss of Morin, who was killed during an evening run in Bel Air, Maryland, thanked former President Trump, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan for their support.

“In stark contrast to the silence from the Biden Administration, former President Donald Trump has met with the Morin family on multiple occasions, offering his support and condolences,” read the family’s statement.

“Maryland Governor Wes Moore has also reached out to the family, expressing his sorrow. Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan contacted the family soon after the suspect’s apprehension. He and Maryland Lt. Governor Aruna Miller attended the one-year memorial walk with the family, demonstrating their commitment to honour Rachel Morin’s memory,” Rice added.

Morin’s family underscored the human toll of the Biden administration’s border policies, urging the administration to recognise the impact on American citizens.

“The Morin family’s pain is a poignant reminder of the consequences of lax border policies and the resulting human toll,” Rice said. “As they continue to mourn Rachel’s loss, they call on the Biden administration to acknowledge the tragedy that has devastated their lives.”

Morin, 37, was reported missing in August 2023 by her boyfriend after she failed to return from a run on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air, a typically safe town northeast of Baltimore. Her body was discovered on the trail the following day.

Police linked Martinez-Hernandez to Morin’s murder through DNA evidence. In March 2023, DNA connected him to a brutal attack in Los Angeles.

“Once in our country, and likely emboldened by his anonymity, he brutally attacked a 9-year-old girl and her mother during a home invasion in March 2023 in Los Angeles,” Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said previously. “That was our first DNA match linking Rachel’s case to the one in Los Angeles.”

The FBI said familial DNA helped identify Martinez-Hernandez as the perpetrator in both cases. Authorities noted he was also wanted for murder in El Salvador.

“We are 1,800 miles from the southern border,” Gahler stated at a June press conference. “And American citizens are not safe because of [the White House and Congress’] failed immigration policies.”

Martinez-Hernandez was apprehended in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in June and faces charges of first-degree murder, rape, and kidnapping in Morin’s death.

The White House and Kamala Harris’ campaign have been contacted for comment.
