The search continued on Sunday for a relative suspected of stabbing a 4-year-old girl multiple times in her New Jersey home. The child’s father said she is fighting for her life and the attack left him “dumbfounded.”
The girl is in stable condition at Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center, receiving treatment for puncture wounds to her lung and liver and an injured diaphragm.
“She couldn’t respond because of the tubes, but she opened her eyes and made eye contact when she heard my voice. That brought me joy,” said the girl’s father, Faherem LaSane, outside the hospital on Saturday afternoon.
LaSane identified his daughter as Amber, describing her as a happy girl with a big smile and a good appetite.
The stabbing occurred just after 4 p.m. on Friday in Paterson, New Jersey, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. Officers responded to a domestic dispute call and found the child with multiple stab wounds.

Police have not yet identified the suspect. However, Paterson council member Luis Velez mentioned that authorities are searching for the child’s aunt in connection with the incident.
The aunt was babysitting Amber while the girl’s mother was at home caring for another child, according to family members.
Neighbor Keema James witnessed the mother emerge from the home holding Amber, both covered in blood. “She had a big gash on her forehead and was wrapped up,” James said in an interview.
LaSane was shocked upon hearing about the stabbing and rushed to the hospital to be with his daughter. “I was totally dumbfounded and in disbelief,” he said.
The motive for the stabbing is still under investigation.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has requested anyone with information about the incident to contact their office.
