The Los Angeles Police Department reported on Thursday that four individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of “General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor.
Robert Barceleau from Huntington Park, Leonel Gutierrez from Los Angeles County, and Sergio Estrada from Los Angeles County, all aged 18, were arrested on murder warrants. Frank Olano, 22, from Inglewood, was detained on an accessory warrant.
The arrests occurred after officers executed search warrants at various locations across Los Angeles. Legal representatives for the accused could not be immediately located.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass emphasised the need for accountability, stating that those responsible for this “brazen and heinous act” must be fully accountable.
Wactor was shot on 25 May around 3:25 a.m., shortly after finishing his shift at a bar and walking to his car. According to police, he was confronted by three individuals attempting to steal his car’s catalytic converter with a floor jack.
During a press conference, Johnny Wactor’s mother, Scarlett Wactor, urged Mayor Karen Bass and District Attorney George Gascón to reinforce the criminal justice system. She expressed her grief over the loss of her son, stating that “grief is my constant companion”.
Earlier in August, police released new images of the suspects and the stolen black Infiniti Q50 Sedan they used to flee the scene. The suspect accused of shooting Wactor has tattoos above the left eye and on the right cheek. Police have asked for public assistance in identifying the suspects.
In June, Wactor’s family and friends held an emotional press conference calling for arrests. Micah Parker, a friend of Wactor, described him as “one of the best men” he had ever known and highlighted his tragic loss to family, friends, and fans.
Just before the shooting, Wactor reportedly stepped in front of a female co-worker to protect her. Colin Flynn, a friend, mentioned that Wactor tried to shield his colleague when the shooter, wearing a mask, pulled out a gun and fired.
Parker vowed to find the culprits, urging the LAPD to continue their efforts until justice is served.
Wactor played a recurring role in “General Hospital” from 2020 to 2022 and appeared in several other TV series such as “Criminal Minds,” “Siberia,” and “Westworld.” The official Instagram account for “General Hospital” described him as “one of a kind” and expressed their heartbreak over his untimely passing.
Wactor’s manager praised him as a kind soul and talented actor, stating that his enthusiasm and professionalism made him a joy to work with. He added that Wactor will always be cherished in his memory.
