Stoke siblings found dead in house, woman arrested on murder suspicion
Police have identified the two children found dead at a house in Stoke on Sunday as Elizabeth John and Ethan John. The siblings were discovered unresponsive and with significant injuries at a property on Flax Street. Despite receiving medical attention, both children tragically died at the scene. Ethan was 11 years old, while Elizabeth was just seven years old.
Ethan’s school paid tribute to him, describing him as a “wonderful member of our school community” with “impeccable manners and an infectious smile.” Meanwhile, Elizabeth’s school remembered her as a “ray of sunshine who always had a smile on her face” and was “both bright and popular.”
A 49-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder after officers initially responded to a car wash following reports of a stabbing. The woman remains in custody for questioning. A man in his 40s was taken to the hospital but has since been discharged.
Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Hannan stated that specially-trained officers were providing support to “those closest to the children whilst we find out more about what happened.” She added, “We are solely focused on finding out what happened to these two children and supporting those affected by this deeply traumatic incident.”
Authorities are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Flax Street and Campbell Road between 1:30pm and 2:30pm on Sunday or who has video footage from the vicinity to come forward and contact the police.
